Google’s Local Business Results are placed above the organic results when the search contains the name of a city. This makes optimizing your Google Local Business account a must.
List Your Business With Google
Be sure to start an account for your business in Google’s Local Business Center. Include as much detail as Google will allow. Fill out each field. Remember to use keywords and phrases but don’t make it look spammy! People will view this material and so will Google. Yes, you should include images, videos, multiple categories, additional details, etc. The more content the better.
Get Citations for Google Maps!!
When you do a local search, for example “SEO in Raleigh, NC” you will notice that you can click on “more” for each business listed in the Google Local Results section or if they have reviews you can click on the “reviews”. When you have done this you will be brought to this company’s Google Maps account. You will notice there is a section titled “More about this place”. Under this section Google lists web pages that mention your business. This is called a citation. You want as many citations as possible. Google is in the business of giving the most relevant results possible. The more citations a business has the more confident Google is that the business is a relevant result. All other things being equal – he with the most citations wins. And watch your account in Google’s Local Business Center and you will see just how huge this is – for example I’ve had a single listing produce over 1,000 impressions per month. I didn’t track how many calls came from these impressions but if your at the top there is a good chance you would recieve hundreds of calls. Get citations!
